The Long Weekend

We had a great long weekend with Grandpa Tom. On Friday we had friends over for a BBQ. On Sunday, we went to the beach.

And today, we went over to see our friends Sven, Stacy, Maddie, and Sammie for another BBQ!

We also managed to squeeze in breakfast out (Saturday), dinner out (Saturday), and several trips to the playground. Summer is finally here!

The Trifecta

Last night we had Felix down peacefully at 8 o'clock sharp--five minutes later he barfed in his bed. Then, later that night, while Marya was burping Cosmo after a feeding, he barfed all over her back. This morning, while Felix was lounging around with us after waking bright and early at 5:15, he barfed a little ("Poor guy," quoth he) and then his diaper leaked during a monumental pee (he was drinking bathwater last night)...the trifecta!

(Felix isn't sick. He probably ate a bit too much yesterday. I submit the following photo as evidence:)

This picture is from a going-away party that his teachers had for him yesterday. It was very sweet, they bought him a cake and everything...we think they have always played favorites with him but we didn't have much incentive to complain. They all seemed extremely sorry to see him go. We're sorry to leave, too, but looking forward to a shorter daycare commute. As if to reassure us of the wisdom of our decision, Felix was extremely rowdy on the bus trip home.

The Peace-Maker

Well, we'd hoped to get Cosmo through babyhood as a pacifier-free baby, but he gets so fussy between 5 and 8 (ironically, the hours when I get to see him), that last night we finally relented and gave him one. A little bit of puzzlement on his part, but he seemed to like it, and darned if we didn't get some peace.

Of course, then he had one of the most difficult bedtimes yet, although once he was down, he slept through the night with just one wakeup, and kept snoozing until after Felix and I left. Felix has actually been waking up more than Cosmo lately. We think the stress of changing schools, combined with residual stress from having a new roommate, may be the factors making him so needy.

But boy are we tired. One positive note: tomorrow is the last long commute for Felix, which will make June a lot easier for me.

Looking forward to seeing Grandpa Tom tonight!

This is an old photo, but I don't have any newer ones on this computer and I hate to post without a photo!

What Are the Odds?

Marya stumbled across this photo while looking for our own site last Friday:

Pronoun Adventures

Felix's pronoun adventures continue. This morning he indicated by grunting that he wanted to be set down on a manhole cover. (Stomping and dancing on manhole covers remains a favorite form of exercise.) I did so, and then he said, "I put you down on manhole cover."

Later, riding the bus, he said (apropos of nothing): "You like spinning toys, don't you?"

Another first for Cosmo this weekend: first bottle feeding. I fed him while Marya took Felix to the playground. He seemed puzzled by it but gave it the old college (preschool?) try and managed to polish off a few ounces. Who knows, maybe one of these days we'll get a babysitter....

Congratulations Megan and Brian! Poor Wilhelmina, I'm sure she was hoping for a girl...

Our Little Falafel

It seems there is a "first" for Cosmo everyday: Cosmo's first train ride, Cosmo's first movie (we recently went to a moms' matinee of 'Akeelah and the Bee'), Cosmo's first trip to the office.

Here's a pic of us today from Cosmo's first lunch out at our favorite falafel joint in Andersonville.

I've been trying, unsuccessfully, to get a photo of one of Cosmo's first smiles. He smiles more every day, often out of happiness, we're quite sure. I'll keep trying...

Wrestlemania!

Last night Felix and I were wrestling and he pulled out some serious pro-wrestling moves. I was lying on my back and he would belly-flop onto me, arms flying like he was slapping the mat. "Body slam!" I told him. "Daddy slam!" he repeated back to me, which is probably just as well...I don't want him pro-wrestling just anybody....

But I think my favorite move was when he would stand on my stomach, hold my hands to steady himself, and run in place. Felix, Marya, and I were all laughing hysterically.

On a sweeter note, Felix is starting to share things. His favorite toys are "spinning toys" -- stackable spinners that Sean and Kirstin gave us, that sit on a motorized blower (the air makes them whirl around). He's starting to share them, but difficulty with pronouns has morphed into difficulty with prepositions. Handing a spinning toy to Marya, he says: "Hold spinning toy for Mommy."

Mother's Day

Last Sunday we went to Golden House for Mother's Day breakfast. It's not glamorous, but red vinyl booths are easy to wipe clean.

Cosmo loved it, as you can see. Felix loved it even more. Waffles!

Keep standing on wall!

This morning as I was giving Felix his usual shoulder ride from the bus to school ("Felix--sitting--on--daddy's--shoulders!") he saw a bunch of pigeons milling about in the park ("Eating--bweakfast!") and so we stopped to look at them ("Felix--stand--on--wall!"). We watched them for awhile and discussed the things they might enjoy eating for breakfast (rice? worms? bugs?), and then I suggested that we keep walking to school: "Keep--standing--on--wall!"

We got to school eventually, with Felix walking and holding daddy's hand ("Holding mine hand.").

Green Grass Is Fuzzy

On Sunday, we were walking along Marine Drive and Felix noticed some fairly unkempt grass on the boulevard. Said he: "Green grass is fuzzy."

Welcome Cosmo

Has it already been over a month since we welcomed Cosmo to the world?
