While making a pitcher of orange rabbit.
Felix: Daddy, I have something important to say. Never--EVER--put a person in a juicer.

Fortunately, Sean Has Already Boned Up on This
In bed, after lights out.
Felix: Daddy, since you and Mommy don't know all about heart attacks, the next time we go to Utah we should ask Uncle Sean about heart attacks. He's a nurse and he knows all about taking care of adults.

Wearing His Allegiance on His Sleeve--Er, Chest
Then, when Marya picked up Felix and Cosmo after work, all the kids in Cosmo's class had pictures of Obama taped to their chests.

Things I Never Thought I'd Have to Say, Part 2

Ahoy!
Felix was busy fixing a collapsed bridge on the train set yesterday:
M: Felix, when you grow up maybe you could be a structural engineer, because you are very good at building and fixing bridges.
F: No, I don’t want to be that.
M: What do you want to be?
F: Nothing.
C: I know what I want to be!
M: What?
C: I want to be a sailor!
F: Oh, and I know what I can be. I can be Cosmo’s mate!

Here Lies One Whose Name Is Writ in Snow
C: Daddy, I wrote your name in the snow!
K: That's great, Cosmo. How do you spell it?
Cosmo: . . .
K: What are the letters in my name?
C: I just can't tell you the truth. It's a surprise.

Highway to Heck
Riding in a car.
F: Look, a graveyard! Cosmo? Do you know what's under those gravestones? Dead people!
C: Yeth! Dere are dead people under those stones!

Kids Are Not Very Strong
After a big snowstorm, I told the kids how I helped push a car out of the snow.
Cosmo: I'm too strong to push a car out of the snow.
Felix: No, you're not. You'd need a million kids to do it, or maybe nine.

Happy New Year's Eve!
F: Daddy, I'm going to put a star on January 1st on my new shark calendar.
K: Felix, don't you want to wait and do it tomorrow? If you do it today, then you won't be able to do it tomorrow.
F: No, I'm not going to do that. I'm just taking life differently.

Time Out!
While Felix's favorite song is no longer Macpherson's Lament, he still enjoys hearing it from time to time, followed by a lively discussion of the lyrics. The other night he had this to say:
Daddy, hanging someone from a tree is not a very nice way of giving them a time out.His new favorite song? The Holy Ground. And it has been for months and months and months....

Two Very Good Questions, One Passable Answer
Bedtime, after lights out.
Felix: Daddy, I have a question--wait, I have two questions. Why is there salt water in the oceans and why if we drink it are we always thirsty? Those are my two questions.
Keir: Wow, those are good questions. I'm not sure why there is salt water in the oceans...maybe the oceans have a lot of minerals in them? Salt is a mineral, and maybe the ocean floor is very salty. I don't really know. But when we drink salt water--remember how cells, and every part of our body has water inside? If we have too much salt in our bodies, the salt sucks the water out of our cells and then our bodies tell us we're thirsty so we drink more water, but if it's salt water it doesn't do any good. You could have a tummy full of salt water, and you could have to pee a lot, but you would still be thirsty because your body wouldn't get what it needs. (Thinking, Whew.)
Felix: That doesn't sound like a very good way to live.
